Firefighters battling large blazes in central Washington state were on alert Saturday, as possible dry lightning storms and erratic winds had the potential to ignite new blazes or whip up existing ones.
Progress is slow controlling the larger fires in the region. Hundreds of homes around the Table Mountain Complex Fire in Kittitas County are in danger. It's now grown to more than 11,000 acres and is barely contained.
The Table Mountain fire has prompted the Kittitas County Sheriff to designate as level-3 evacuation areas the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest east of State Highway 97, the Naneum State Forest and the town of Liberty.
